It is difficult for laymen to assess the value of a stamp or a stamp collection. Many factors are relevant for a correct valuation. Besides the actual value, quality and preservation also play an essential role.

All stamps are precisely catalogued in various stamp catalogues and valued with so-called catalogue prices. These serve as a guideline for accurate valuation.
All teeth must be present. Everyone knows this wisdom, and of course it's true. Besides the teeth, however, the preservation plays a decisive role. There are basically used and unused stamps. With unused stamps, a rough distinction is made between mint and folded. The price differences are significant and can amount to many times the value.
As with all objects of value, there are also many forgeries or falsifications of stamps. Many forgeries are themselves already getting on in years and are difficult to recognise for the layman as well as the amateur collector.
Of course, forgeries or falsifications are of no or very little value.
The visual appearance of a stamp is only a reliable parameter at first glance. The type of perforation, the watermark or even the finest colour nuances can make serious price differences.Qualitativer Zustand der Briefmarke sowie Echtheit wird falsch bewertet
In addition to evaluating the correct stamp, the quality plays a significant role. Even small things can cause considerable price differences.
It should also be remembered that only stamps that have a chance of being sold are offered. The vast majority of stamps have no philatelic value and are therefore not even offered.
